Playing the Piano Lessons

Learning how to play the piano represents a mentally and physically challenging skill. Indeed, there are a number of ways one could learn the piano and although all might produce the same result there are methods available that can dramatically shorten the time.

In education, learning is a process which brings together emotional, cognitive and environmental factors. In addition, experiences, and consequently, behaviors are acquired and modified that changes ones skills.

Consider for, example, the notion of remembering using rote memory where, say, the number 1924 is to be memorized. Compare this against memory learning using association such as the year “1924”. The latter is much easier to remember than a series of individual numbers. What happens when you try to remember the following; 192415461891. It is much easier to remember this number as three years (1924, 1546 and 1891) then trying to recall the numbers individually.

As in all teaching there are several dimensions associated with learning how to play piano; (1) a conceptual framework for the learning experience, (2) a source of information and resources and (3) assistance in solutions to the problems that we encounter. From this we develop an experience that modifies our behavior and allows us to develop a new skill.

Indeed, it is by first understanding the concepts of how an individual learns can learning methods be improved so that new skills can be taught faster. How to play the piano represents such a skill.

The methodology discussed here has been provided successfully to tens of thousands of individuals. And in nearly all cases the education provided a speed of learning how to play the piano that was superior to the common and sometimes older methods involving more difficult structured programs.

Conceptual Framework for the Learning Experience

This method teaches piano background, history and how it works. Many students are not taught this essential knowledge. Such knowledge often results in facilitating skills to higher levels of piano play.

No matter how intelligent a person is, he or she can learn. Higher intelligence usually means learning quicker. However, one finding is evident. If the material to be understood is made fun, then the time to acquire the new skill is facilitated. Any average person will tend to understand more if the environment is modified so that a pleasurable experience is had.

Finally, it is important to have a structured program which is designed around learning theories and concepts that are outside the box. It is this type of understanding surrounding learning and teaching that has made RossettaStone so popular. Similar concepts are used here.

Improvising is a key learning dimension. To this end the program teaches melody, harmony, chords, arpeggios, scales and how to chord progressions in any key. This instruction includes being able to read music from only chord symbols.

A chordinator is also provided which assists in reading piano chords off the musical staff. This software greatly assists the ability to read piano music. Also, advanced learning methods are provided which are designed to reduce the learning time via a process known as “mental visualization”.

A software support called “Perfect Your Pitch” is provided which facilitates how to train your ear. This component greatly assists in transcribing songs from the radio. And in most cases in as little as two weeks.
